Sensory Sea Creature Play
Set up a fun and engaging sensory sea creature play table for your kids to enjoy throughout all steps of this activity. Kids will spend hours enjoying this fun, sensory set up.

Materials:
Baking dish, or deep tray
Plastic toy sea animals
Blue food colouring
Water
Small beads/sequins/wool/glitter
Stirring sticks or spoons
Bi-carb soda
Vinegar

Fill your baking dish or tray 1/4 or 1/2 way full so that you have a 1-2cm thick covering of water. Add a variety of plastic toy ocean animals to the water. Note: Don't make the ice too thick, as the thicker the ice, the longer it will take for your child to free their sea creatures from the ice.

Add a few drops of blue food colouring to the water and mix in. Also add small beads, sequins, wool, glitter etc. to the water to decorate it.

Let your child enjoy playing with the water and move the animals around to create some imaginary play time for your child.

Carefully place your water dish in the freezer. Let it freeze overnight or for a number of hours.

Remove the frozen sea creatures from the freezer. Place the dish/tray on a table where you don't mind some mess being created. Give your child a bowl filled with bi-carb soda and a spoon, along with a squeezy bottle filled with diluted white vinegar.

Sprinkle the bi-carb soda onto some small areas of the frozen sea creatures, squirt the vinegar on top, and you'll see a fizzing reaction.

Let your child use a paint brush, plastic fork or other tools to carve away at the ice and free their animals. Warm water poured on top of the ice will speed up the process if your child is getting frustrated with working away at the ice.

Let your child enjoy some imaginary play time, and they will happily spend hours enjoying this activity, as I found my kids did!
